Membership

Since 1984 the Massacusetts Association for Practicing Urologists (MAPU) has been representing Massachusetts' urologists dedicated to improving the standards and practice of urology. On a state-wide basis MAPUs improvements have impacted legislation on both the state and national levels.

If you are a licensed physician or a resident in training in the field of Urology in the Commonwealth and are not already a member of the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists, we cordially invite you to browse this section of our web site and consider joining our organization.

REQUIREMENTS

There are four classes of members in the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists (MAPU): Active, affiliate, retired and trainees.

  • Active members shall be board certified or has completed a Urology residency in another country and is not boarded or eligible to be board certified in the US because of this foreign residency; Practices Urology within the state of Massachusetts; Holds a current Massachusetts medical license; Has Urology privileges at a hospital in the state;  Has a letter submitted to the board of MAPU from a current member recommending him/her for membership
  • Affiliate membership is open to currently licensed non-physician health care professionals who maintain their professional credentials to practice Urology.
  • Retired members shall be board certified urologists who are currently retired from clinical practice.
  • Trainees shall be residents in training in a recognized Urology Residency program within the State of Massachusetts.

All active members shall be eligible to vote at the annual meeting and shall be eligible to hold office in MAPU.

ADMISSION TO MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists (MAPU) shall be open to all licensed physicians whose primary practice of medicine shall be in the field of Urology, whose practices of medicine are within the State of Massachusetts, or who are in a residency training program in Urology within the State of Massachusetts.

In order to be eligible for active membership, a physician must be Board certified or eligible in the field of Urology, must have a current Massachusetts State License, and may not have been found to violate the ethics of the American Medical Association by any recognized Medical Society, Board of Registration in Medicine or Hospital. Suspension from a hospital staff for cause shall render an individual ineligible for membership.

MAPU membership shall not be denied on the basis of race, color, religion, marital status, national origin, physical handicap, sex, or political preference.

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP

Membership shall be obtained upon application, by the payment of all dues, and after the approval of the application by the membership committees and vote of the Board of Directors.
